In all Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops programs there are three key leadership roles:
LOCAL CENTRE COORDINATORS LOCAL CENTRE COACHES PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS
LOCAL CENTRE COORDINATORS
The Local Centre Coordinator is the conduit between the State or Territory Member and the Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops local centre. The key responsibilities of this role include:
- The first point of call for all Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops enquiries at your local centre;
- Distribute all Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops marketing and promotional collateral;
- Attract new participants to your Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops program;
- Administer the participant registration process;
- Distribute Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops participant packs to participants;
- Recruit and coordinate Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops coaches and volunteers;
- Ensure coaches are appropriately accredited;
- Ensure coaches have a working with children card applicable to your state or territory;
- Provide coaches with the required resources to effectively deliver sessions;
- Periodically monitor and assess coaches based on the provided national assessment documentation;
- Encourage and promote participation by parents;
- Ensure parents collect their children after each session; and
- Delegate or assume other program delivery responsibilities such as venue inspection safety.
LOCAL CENTRE COACHES
Local Centre Coaches are responsible for the positive delivery of Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops sessions. The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Deliver Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops sessions in accordance with the nationally approved session cards;
- Ensure the Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops coaching philosophy is adhered to in all sessions;
- Always ensure the participation area is safe prior to the commencement of session delivery;
- Encourage and promote participation by parents;
- Provide positive feedback and encouragement to participants and volunteers;
- Educate parents on out of session coaching and mentoring techniques for them and their child;
- Lead by example promoting participation and fun; and
- Recognise that retention of participants is based on your ability as a coach to provide participants with a constant sense of fun.
PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS
Parents and Caregivers are responsible for providing their children with an opportunity to participate and experience the Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops program. Typically, should the aforementioned responsibilities of the Local Centre Coordinator and Local Centre Coach be done well, and parent and caregivers see their children positively interacting with the program, they will continue to provide their children with the opportunity to participate. As a Local Centre Coordinator or Local Centre Coach it is important to understand the critical role parents play in determining the success of your local Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops program.
